About the Institute

The Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) Mumbai was established as the Department of Chemical Technology on 1st October 1933 by the University of Mumbai, through active support of industries and philanthropists. The Institute was most popularly known as UDCT, Mumbai. Research has been an integral part of ICT since its inception and it has created more than 500 first generation entrepreneurs. Based on its stellar performance over the years, the Government of Maharashtra granted it the Elite Status and Centre of Excellence in the State Assembly on April 20, 2012. This is a singular distinction accorded to any institute in the entire country and speaks volumes about the achievements of the ICT. In November 2017, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Committee visited ICT and graded with A++ CGPA of 3.77 out of 4. As per NIRF-2020, ICT has been ranked 18th Engineering category,18th amongst the top universities in the country. It is also recognized at rank 4 amongst the Pharmacy Institutes. In the BRICS QS Universities ranking 2018, ICT ranked at 118; whereas in 2019, ICT is 115 among all BRICS. 2018 was another glorious year for ICT, when ICT officially established its two campuses outside Mumbai, one in Jalna and another in Bhubaneswar. A land of 203 acres has been allocated at Siraswadi near Jalna to the ICT for Marathwada Campus in Jalna. ICT Jalna campus offered five years integrated M. Tech. in chemical engineering with different minor subjects. This course is first of its kind in India. Along with integrated M. Tech, institute also offered 2 years M. Tech. in food, pharma and polymer technology and doctoral degree in different field of sciences and engineering.

Our endeavours, extending well beyond the confines of the classroom, will aim to enhance public welfare and our attempts to dissipate knowledge will spread to a greater multi- and cross-disciplinary platform to conduct research, discovery, technology development, service to industry and entrepreneurship, in consonance with India’s aspirations to be a welfare state.
